This pilot study has been conducted in the framework of the GAP-PESETA project, which should act as a bridge between the concluded PESETA II and the planned PESETA III projects. The main goal of the Joint Research Centre's PESETA II project was to gain insights into the patterns of climate change impacts in Europe by the end of this century (Ciscar et al., 2014). The PESETA II focused on ten impact categories, including agriculture, energy, river floods, forest fires, transport infrastructure, coasts, tourism, habitat suitability of forest tree species, human health and droughts. However, only streamflow droughts have been investigated in the PESETA II project, drought vulnerability has not been taken into account and only preliminary impacts over cropland and people affected by droughts have been considered.
