Degree of clusterization of regional economy and its export potential
Review of theoretical literature suggests that a higher level of concentration of economic activity, and hence the degree of clustering of the regional economy, should have a positive impact on the export potential of regions. This hypothesis is verified in the case of Polish provinces. As a result of a multi-quantitative analysis of data at a high level of spatial (districts) and sectoral (3-digit classification of activities PKD 2004) disaggregation using the method optimized for Polish conditions we identified potential clusters, understood as a multi-sectoral concentrations. In the next step we calculated clusterization indices for Polish NUTS 2 regions. In the next step, using the gravity model approach for trade of Polish regions to 184 countries of the world we have made the initial positive verification of the hypothesis.
