Design of Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller in a Smart Home Energy Management System with a Combination of Renewable Energy and an Electric Vehicle
This paper presents a type-2 fuzzy expert system (T2-FES) for load-side management, Alternative energy sources management, and electrical energy storage for a smart home. The presented T2-FES makes decisions automatically in a smart home energy management system (EMS), which includes renewable energy sources (RES), batteries, controllable loads (CL), uncontrollable loads (UL), fuel cells, and electric vehicle (EV). The T2-FES reduces energy consumption during peak hours and uses RES to minimize consumption energy from the grid. In the proposed EMS, two type-2 fuzzy logic controllers (T2-FLC) are used, inputting data to the EMS, including the generation of RES, electricity costs, state of charge (SOC) of an EV, fuel cell power, CL, and UL power. The input data in this study has been measured over a year and used in the correct configuration of the control system. This study illustrates outputs to opt for energy generation, CL and used energy in a smart home. Finally, the T2-FES has been tested on one smart home and evaluated with one-day real data in Tehran, Iran
