Determinants of Dairy Technologies Adoption in Angolela-Tera District, North Shewa Zone, Ethiopia
In Ethiopia dairy technology adoption is an important aspect of improving the low productivity and reproductivity of dairy animals. The adoption of dairy technology in Ethiopia is not only low but also the extent of adoption is also varied from place to place and farm to farm. Therefore, identifying and documenting of the major factors that determine adoption are crucial to make further interventions. The current study was carried in Angolela-Tera district of three selected Kebeles. A sample of 181 households (84 adopter and 97 non adopters) from the total targeted 2,356 smallholders were surveyed using purposive and random sampling techniques. The data were collected using individual interviews of households through a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression model. The descriptive statistics were used to better understanding of the socioeconomic characteristics of the households, while the binary logistic regression model was performed to estimate the determinant factors of dairy technology adoption. Educational level, distance from market center, membership of dairy cooperatives, frequency of extension contacts and total livestock unit had among the most important determinant factors associated with dairy technology adoption. Therefore, the finding clearly showed that education, market and extension service accesses of farm households besides being a member of dairy cooperatives and possessed large number of animals are important to increase the likelihoods of dairy technologies adoption in the study area
