Determinants of the Coproduction of Public Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic : A Study of Students on a University Campus

This article discusses the coproduction of public health measures on a US college campus during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic showed that public health policies requiring cooperation from individuals and communities are crucial to reducing the spread of the virus. Coproduction, where individuals work with governments to promote and maintain public health. In this article, we evaluate the use of masks, social distancing, and vaccinations as critical measures of the coproduction of public health. The likelihood of the effectiveness of these coproduction measures is evaluated using observational and survey data conducted in the state of Oregon and shows that the students were more likely than the general public to participate in the coproduction activities. We also discuss unique challenges and opportunities for the coproduction of public health on college campuses. The article concludes by guiding future university administrators on effective communication channels to improve the response to a future pandemic
