Developing Entrepreneurship Program In Private Higher Education in Indonesia

Unemployment problem is a crucial issue that needs a serious attention and solution by the Indonesia government. Since 2008, Directorate General of Higher Education (DGHE) has established students’ entrepreneurship program by offering various grants for facilitating the students to start business. Such program has a purpose to enhance the effectiveness of many kinds of programs related to entrepreneurship such as internship program, entrepreneurship lecturing, students’ creativity program, and the like. These grants were offered to private and public universities but with different policies. This paper is aimed to describe how the government policy - and the coordinator for regional private Higher Education (HE) with their role-develop entrepreneurship program for private higher educations, how the entrepreneurship program executes and, specifically in East Java: Surabaya and its entire, key success factors, and the effect of this program on creating entrepreneurship academic atmosphere and spirit, and also on creating young educated entrepreneurs. Based on 15 university entrepreneurship program reports - involving 24 entrepreneur projects - it can be formulated that there are three alternative models for developing entrepreneurship in private higher educations. In general, it can be concluded that this program can generate some fruitful benefits not only for HE institutions, but also for students as well for small-medium enterprises (SMEs) as the partners of this program
