Development in Science and Technology in Nigeria in a Globally Depressed Economy

The paper is on the development in science and technology education in a globally depressed economy. It discussed the concepts of science and technology education, demand-driven theory, causes of global depression with particular attention to Nigeria. The development of science and technology education in depressed economies of United States, United Kingdom and Nigeria were also discussed. These nations were used based on their robust economies vis-à-vis the Nigerian dependent economy. The paper also discussed the effect of global depression leading to lack of science and technology education equipment, lack of science and technology education staff and teachers, poorly motivated students are taught science and technology education in poorly equipped laboratories by unqualified teacher. It was concluded that the development in science and technology education in a global depression economy has been negatively affected in terms of dearth of equipment, poor staff and students’ quality. The paper recommends practical approaches to revamp the economy through science and technology education which includes better budgetary allocation to research for quality science and technology education in a globally depressed economy
