Digital European platform of quality content providers : final reports phase 1 & 2

The European media industry is an essential contributor to Europe's democratic, cultural and economic life, but it faces significant competitive and technology challenges in the digital era. In line with the European Media and Audiovisual Action Plan, DG CONNECT launched two studies setting out opportunities and requirements to create a European news online distribution platform and media dataspaces. The first study defined the minimum requirements and forward-looking scenarios for developing a platform. Among the identified three content sharing strategies, the Agency Syndication model (distribution of content to various media outlets, such as newspapers, websites, and broadcasters) is recommended. The second study built on the first phase and took a broader approach towards dataspaces, exploring promising use case areas where an increased access to data would benefit the sector, such as adaptive content recommendations, anti-piracy system, AI news assistant, or a media dataspace in virtual worlds.
