Digital Transformation and Business Performance : A Systematic Literature Review and Future Directions

This systematic review examines the intricate relationship between digital transformation and the performance of firms and managers, and the economic conduits through which these influences propagate. Various analytical methods were utilized, including a thematic evolution map that revealed "digitalization" as the focus of four themes. A co- occurrence network analysis (CNA) identified "digital," "transformation," and "research" as the most influential actors. While research exploring the relationship between digital transformation and business performance is increasing, critical research gaps require attention. The study recommends investigating the efficacy of digital transformation in small- and medium-sized enterprises, comprehending the role of organizational culture in the success of digital transformation initiatives, and verifying the impact of digital transformation on business resilience. We underscore the importance of additional research on the impact of digital transformation on customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and other facets of business performance, and the necessity for longitudinal studies to evaluate the sustained effects of digital transformation. Addressing these gaps will enhance academic understanding of the nexus between digital transformation and business performance and facilitate the development of effective digital transformation strategies
