Digital Transformation Management in Maintenance : Interoperability-Based Adequacy Aiming Smart Legacy Systems

The Industry 4.0 movement highlights the importance of information and communication technologies. Thus, organizations that are trying to implement those technologies face several interoperability barriers. With this in mind, this paper proposes a digital transformation framework with a focus on interoperability in maintenance systems. Aiming to make legacy systems perform along with cyber-physical systems, the proposed framework suggests their adequacy based on Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. This strategy will originate a Smart Legacy System. Two cases demonstrate that the presented framework may secure interoperability while facilitating strategic decisions to implement technologies and maintain legacy systems
