Diskriminierung als Kontraktproblem. Zur Mikrookonomik der Chancengleichheit auf dem Markt fur Fuhrungskrafte. (With English summary.)
Sexual discrimination may persist in absence of discriminatory preferences if women find it more difficult to signal the quality of their human capital or to write self-enforcing labor market contracts. This argument is presented in the context of a model of allocation of individuals with identical formal qualifications to managerial careers. Women end up with lower utility and--under plausible circumstances--are allocated to second quality careers. Such a type of discrimination may prove rather robust vis-a-vis traditional antidiscriminatory policy. The authors investigate the possibility of suitable remedies.
