Driving Innovation & Creating Value for Society through Social Entrepreneurship

India has numerous social challenges in the field of education, healthcare, agriculture, renewable energy, manufacturing and skills development. Over 60% of the Indian population still lives on less than $2 (about Rs.130 at current rates) a day. The government efforts to address these issues have been inadequate. In India so far. In many countries, the role of government in the socio economic domain is shifting towards privatization of public responsibilities. As a result, social Entrepreneurship is gaining momentum across the world. Social entrepreneurship refers to the practice of combining innovation, resourcefulness and opportunity to address critical social and environmental challenges. The importance of social entrepreneurs becomes more in the context of underdeveloped and developing countries, due to their potential of solving social problems in a sustainable manner. Notwithstanding, social entrepreneurs face significant challenges related to lack of funding, business skills, scalability and supportive regulations. Despite these hurdles, social entrepreneurship provide a ray of hope to social and economic issues in India but some policy measures are required to encourage it.
