Dynamics of magnetized colloids on a disordered substrate
Using Langevin simulations, we study numerically the dynamics of two-dimensional magnetized colloids on a disordered substrate. With an increase in the strength of substrate, we find a crossover from elastic to plastic depinnings. In the elastic regime with weak substrates, a power-law relationship between average velocity and applied driving is found to be different from that in charged colloids. In the plastic regime with strong substrates, we find a dynamic transition from the plastic flow to a moving smectic as the drive is increased high above the depinning, as well as a transition from the moving smectic to a moving crystal at high enough drives.
