Eco-Efficient Innovation in a Jute Fibre Enterprise

Product development is an important capability because of the constantly changing environment. The innovation process is also relevant to the extent that an organization does something that nobody else can do, or doing better than others. In this context, the present article has the objective to analyze the eco-efficient innovation process conducted by Omega enterprise. Taking as its starting point a brief review of the literature on innovation and the cultivation of jute fibre in the Amazonas could base the analysis on the enterprise studied. The research is characterized as qualitative and descriptive approach used as has been the case study and the definition of the universe presents a small enterprise located in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM). As research techniques were used (1) indirect documentation through desk research, literature and intensive direct observation (observation and structured interview), and (2) extensive direct observation (forms). The Omega is a small industrial enterprise specializing in paper recycling and manufacturing of screens vegetable fibres, including jute, discovered and developed from scientific research and innovation carried out with the support and partnership with recognized entities in the State of Amazonas. The results presented are the characteristics and key innovations (product, process and social) adopted by the enterprise. In the case of product innovation highlights are the bags that hold their ecological functionality similar to plastic bags (still existing and widely consumed by the market), but differ in the advantage of being made of material non-polluting, recyclable, more durable and production process respecting the environment. The research findings help to strengthen the possibility of innovation in traditional sectors and activities, all of the innovations that have occurred in the enterprise (product, process and social) have created a new value for the enterprise, and the constant process of new product development and fundamental constants due changing environment
