Education and occupation : an enquiry into the relationship between college specialization and the labour market in postwar Japan

Much attention has been devoted in recent years to pinpointing structural differences between Japan's economy and that of the other advanced industrial nations, especially that of the USA. The authors highlight one important structural difference between Japan and North America (the USA and Canada): the nature of the interaction between the markets for higher education and labour. They point out that the American higher education market is mainly demand driven, while the Japanese higher education market is mainly supply driven. (DÜI-Sen)
