Emission Constrained Planning of Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Stations

Electric vehicles (EVs) play an important role in sustainable transportation development. However, some research works argue that much air pollution could be brought with increasing EVs due to fossil fuel power generation. Thus, joint planning of the fast-charging station (FCS) and the distributed renewable energy is critical to not only reduce air pollution but also increase EVs' usage. In this article, an interdisciplinary study is carried out on the FCS and distributed renewable energy planning considering various constraints. A multiobjective integer planning model is proposed to determine the siting and sizing of: 1) FCS; 2) Photovoltaics (PV) installations on the power distribution network (PDN); 3) renewable energy power supply. Meanwhile, the proposed planning approach takes: 1) heterogeneous EVs driving range constraints; 2) PDN operation; 3) air pollutants classification into account.
