Energy loss of charged particles moving in a plasma
The stopping power of charged particles in a plasma is considered int the frame work of the Lenard-Balescu and Boltzmann kinetic equations. Numerical evaluations are given in the random phase approximation for the dielectric constant and for an expression of the latter derived numerically by Carini and Kalman. An expression is derived which relates the stopping power with the transport cross section in terms of scattering phase shifts. It is shown especially that there is no need of a cutt-off at small and large wave numbers. For comparison expressions for the self-energy are given.
