Entitlement in the Multilevel Public Goods Game

We investigate whether the emergence of a sense of entitlement in individuals who must earn their position by means of a real effort task affects their prosociality in the multilevel public goods game. We study three treatments where either both groups or only one have to perform the preliminary task and we compare their contribution to a baseline where no preliminary task was required. We find evidence that the contribution to the local public good is stable across all treatments, while the contribution to the global public good is significantly lower when both groups perform the preliminary task
