Environmental-Resource Utilization Performance : A Study on the Selected Asian Companies
Introduction: Considering the necessity of environmental management, corporate contribution is expected, beside the other economic and non-economic organizations. However, the corporate contribution has not been thoroughly explored yet on the developing nation like India. Therefore, the present study has been initiated on the three types of resource (water, air, energy) utilization performance of some selected Asian companies.Method: An empirical study has been made on the time series data to find out the trend of resources consumption intensity of the selected companies from India and Korea, by utilizing the published financial and non-financial reports of the year 2006-07 to 2013-14. Results: Except the water consumption, the GHG emission, water recycling, energy consumption and environmental expenditure have favourable trend in consideration to the environmental contribution by the companies. Also, the environmental expenditure is favorably correlated with the GHG emission, water consumption and water recycling performances of the companies. Implication: The study brings out a positive aspect of the companies responsibility towards the environment including the aspects in which attention required
