In a strange way, this compendium may constitute one of the very few silver linings of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Introduction, Professor Silber candidly narrates how he was on the verge of turning down the invitation from the publisher. Upon further reflection, he concluded that “in these times of pandemic, when from time to time there are lockdowns and conferences and seminars are cancelled, editing a Handbook may be a nice way of staying busy. This is why I finally accepted.” Researchers, policymakers, and students around the world will now be able to greatly benefit from Professor Silber’s decision and the over sixty excellent chapters on practically every relevant topic that measuring poverty entails.
