EVALUATION OF SMES IN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY SECTOR IN ISTANBUL BASED ON BALANCED SCORECARD DIMENSIONS
More than 99% of companies are SMEs (Small and Medium Size Enterprise) in Turkey. Although SMEs are important for economies of countries, SMEs don’t give enough importance to their performances due to not having institutionalized management. Balanced Scorecard is a tool to evaluate company performance based on financial, customer, internal business processes, and learning and growth perspectives. The purposes of this study are to determine the last 3-year performances of SMEs in manufacturing industry sector in Istanbul compared to their main competitors based on Balanced Scorecard perspectives and to examine the possible significant relationship between the size of SMEs and Balanced Scorecard Perspectives. The questionnaire of this study was filled-out by middle or top level managers from 432 SMEs which were chosen by convenience sampling. Frequency distribution analysis and Chi-square analysis were applied to the data. This study is a leading study in this field due to not having enough studies to assess performances of SMEs based on Balanced Scorecard perspectives.
