Exploring Cultures Through Knowledge Cybernetics

A new way of representing the attributes of culture is presented that enables other approached like those of Hofstede and of Schwartz to be subsumed within it. It arises from the theory of knowledge cybernetics, principally concerned with the development of agents like autonomous social collectives that survive through knowledge and knowledge processes. Boje has introduced the notion of antenarrative that can be connected with narrative. Their interconnectedness in actual processes of social communication demonstrates parallel coexistence of modernist and postmodernist paradigms. The theory is constructed as a metaphor, but it will be argued that this still has significance. In developing a theory of culture we shall also explore aspects of social psychology, and explain how culture can be associated with different types of mentality.
