Exploring the Effects of Remote Work on Work-Life Balance : An Empirical Study

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the world into unprecedented confinement, leading to the rapid adoption of work-from-home policies. While home-based work promotes consistent work roles and social distancing, it also presents challenges, such as routine-bound telecommunications and web interactions, which can result in fatigue and exhaustion. This study examines how employees manage their work and home roles flawlessly while working from home. The empirical and quantitative analysis describes how work from home or office affects employees' daily work-life balance by considering two independent variables: work engagement and work strain, their contributions, and their effects on employees' work-life balance. Additionally, the study finds employees' genders, the natures of their organizations (private, government, NGO), and their paternal responsibilities to demonstrate their effects on work-life balance or position conflicts based on these parameters. Results indicate that home-based work positively impacts work-life balance, allowing employees to manage their work and home roles calmly. Furthermore, work engagement positively influences work-life balance. At the same time, job strain significantly negatively impacts work-life balance, leading to imbalanced work and family life for employees who experience work-related stress while working from home
