Factors Affecting Business Process Management in an Organization

The changing economic environment has raised the challenges to the organizational competitiveness, therefore to the organizational existence (Porter, 1993; McCormack et al, 2009; Ranganathan & Dhaliwal, 2001). Organizational leadership (OL), being the decision makers, is at the forefront to bear the pressures exerted by the changing economic environment (Cameron and Green, 2009). OL deploys various management tools, techniques, and tactics to ensure the survival of their organization through the environmental turmoil. The discourse on organization and the mutual fit of its different components and aspects like strategy, structure, culture, process, and technology, as well the leadership and environment is a classic as well as a contemporary topic (Trkman, 2010). De Wit and Meyer (2010) propose that the organizational structure, processes, and culture are the core areas prone to change management implementation. Through the theoretical framework of Chandler (1990), one can view the change as a function which initiates at strategic level and affecting the structure of an organization. Any change in the organizational objectives that effect either of organizational structure, processes, or culture will ultimately affect the whole organization, therefore other two entities as well
