Local industrial clusters have attracted much attention in the recent economic and geographical literature. A huge number of case studies have been conducted. This paper presents an analysis of case studies for 159 local industrial clusters in various countries and industries. The involvement of thirty-four different local conditions and processes is studied, providing a summary of the knowledge that is gathered in the case studies with a comparison between continents, developed and developing countries, new and old clusters, and high- and low-technology industries.
