Feasibility study on options to step up EU action against deforestation : inventory of existing EU policies, legislation and initiatives addressing the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation : final report

This inventory of existing EU policies, legislation and initiatives has been developed as part of the Feasibility study on an EU Action Plan on deforestation, whose overall aim is to "define and assess policy options available to step up EU action on deforestation and forest degradation" (as per the European Commission's Terms of Reference). For more background on the study please refer to the main report.This report presents the result of Task 1 of the study. The aim of Task 1, as per the ToR, is to conduct 'a comprehensive mapping exercise of existing [and forthcoming] EU policy, legislation and initiatives that can address, directly or indirectly, the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation within and outside EU borders.' The mapping exercise also covers selected Member State legislation, policy and initiatives and private sector initiatives. Section 2 of this report describes the approach used to identify and present the elements of the inventory. Detailed results are presented in a printable Word document that lists the full inventory (printable on A4). The inventory was prepared and completed as the first step of the study in 2016. It has not been further updated in the course of the study so the inventory reflects the state of play at the time of its completion (August 2016).
