Europe has seen in the recent decades a decline of the total fertility rate well below the population replacement level, thus leading to a decrease in the number of inhabitants and the aging of the population. The aim of this paper is to analyze the demographic policies of the EU Member States and to group these countries according to TFR, the number of infants and the existing population policy. In order to achieve these goals we employ cluster analysis. Our results suggest that the European countries may be grouped according to the chosen variables and that demographic policies exhibit many similarities. A future study will examine the influence of demographic policies on fertility and the intensity of the relationship between the abovementioned variables.
