Fianancing of Terrorism in Nigeria : Towards Understanding of the Role of Financial Institutions in Post COVID-19 Nigeria (2020-2021)

Terrorism is no doubt is global threat. Every country whether developed or developing is directly or indirectly faced with one form of terrorist attack or the other. Such attacks have arrested development and threatened the corporate existence of human race. The continued attacks and the use of sophiscated weapons by these terrorists suggest their financial capacity and strength to unleash mayhem on human and material resources. This paper examined the role of financial institutions in the financing of terrorism in Nigeria with particular reference to Boko Haram insurgents whose killings can be paralleled to the era of the state of nature when life was brutish, nasty, solitary and short. Specifically, the paper is targeted at x-raying the role of financial institution in curbing the financial strength of terrorist organization in Nigeria. The paper employed qualitative research through documentary method of data collection and content analysis. After rigorous analysis, the paper revealed among others things that various anti-terrorism financing policies such as uncoordinated counter terrorism strategies, institutional and techno-scientific challenges, the lack of political will by the relevant actors to address the challenge of terrorism financing are seemingly ineffective and dysfunctional. The paper therefore recommended among others, effective border management and the application of various counter terrorism financing policies with effective monitoring
