Foreign involvement and garment exports by developing countries

Using some evidence from Italy and Germany, and drawing on some case studies of German involvement in garment exports from Sri Lanka, the authors explore the impact of involvement by foreign enterprises on the exports of garments by developing countries. They look, in particular, at the ways in which European firms have helped developing country producers to upgrade their technological capabilites and their ability to market their products in the European community.
