Funding the Nigerian Military Through Public-Private Partnership : the Alternative Source Approach

This article expositorily looked at the Challenges associated with the Funding of the Nigerian Military amidst increased security demands across the Country. The paper established that dwindling allocations to the Military and underfunding is the bane of her numerous challenges in combating the insecurity menace confronting the Country. It argued that for Nigeria to have a more professionally responsive Armed Forces with the capacity and ability to face our security challenges head on to nipping them, absolutely other alternative sources of funding other than the usual annual budgetary allocation must be device. In this perspective, the Authors opined an establishment of Public-Private Partnership Commission (PPPC) or Public-Private Partnership Trust Fund ( PPPT-Fund) will make a good alternative of additional source of funding the Military. The article also, dwelled on the need for the Military to activate and empowered some of its Corps such as the Army Engineer Corps to utilized its capacity in not only building Military structures but accept projects from the members of the Public to raise funds for the Military. The paper pinpoint that, it does not matter what it is called but certainly the Federal Government cannot efficiently fund the operations of the Military along, the Private Sector (Households and Firms) must key in if the Country must have a robust Armed Forces in terms of Capacity and ability to operate effectively and more professionally
