Harmonization of Caribbean Securities Acts - Some Issues for Consideration

The launch of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), which inter alia, facilitates the free movement of capital among Member States has implications for the legal and regulatory frameworks governing the financial services sectors. Notwithstanding the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas and the commitments made by CARICOM Heads of Government, there has not been any serious attempt by Member States to implement harmonized securities legislation to further the integration efforts. This paper seeks to explore some of the issues to be considered in the development and implementation of harmonized securities legislation in CARICOM Member States
