Health Services in the EEA
Health policy has traditionally been an area governed principally by the law of individual member states. There is a general consensus among the member states and also the European Union (EU) institutions that this should not fundamentally change in the future. Despite a general acceptance of that principle, member states had also to realise that establishing an internal market u0096 i.e. freeing the movement of goods, persons and services - requires at least to some extent a common approach u0096 be it through the coordination of national policies or, in specific cases, even through harmonisation. Healthcare is no exception.
