How Copyright Can Be Regulated in the Metaverse? Whether the Current Law and Enforcement Instruments of the UK and EU Apply to the Metaverse
In today’s reality, technology is to be a core aspect of our life. More and more people interact through social media and other methods such as messengers. However, recently, another innovation that started to be trendy is named the metaverse. It permits people to have the next level of interaction on the internet, not just through text and pictures, but extremely similar to how we do it in the real world. As a result, such a platform allows its users to create their objects inside starting from small and ending with whole buildings, marketplaces, and others. It causes a serious question in front of intellectual property law due to the fact that such authors wish to protect their works. Therefore, this work is written to analyse how copyright law can exist in the metaverse, and whether existing legislation and enforcement mechanisms can be applied now. In order to answer the stated questions, the three main factors are elaborated on. The first one is the creation of the copyright object in the metaverse: issues appearing on the edge of the co-ownership and multiple jurisdictions. The second factor is an infringement of copyright law in the metaverse: how copyright can be violated and what makes it difficult to identify the infringer. Last but not least one is the enforcement of copyright law in the metaverse: several solutions to how the enforcement of law can be reached in the metaverse are proposed in the chapter
