HRD case study research: authors in the US review trends between 2000 and 2020 and call for changes
Purpose This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies. Design/methodology/approach This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings The authors reviewed HRD case studies published in three academic journals between 2000 and 2020. They found that the most common approach was exploratory case studies, especially ones with single-case designs. Further analysis revealed that research contributing to theory development by eliciting concepts and their relationships received more attention than case studies providing rich descriptions. Originality/value The briefing saves busy executives, strategists and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
