Implementation of TQM Techniques in TPM

Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Total Quality Management (TQM) systems are considered to be operational tools and techniques for the planning, implementation and control of the quality management system. The objective of both systems is to achieve the synergy and acts as two drivers to improve the business performance excellence in the context of manufacturing industry. The TQM focuses on principles towards achieving the customer satisfaction and continuous improvements, while TPM is a supporting activity which provides empowerment, teamwork and autonomous maintenance to productive maintenance. This paper details the study conducted to know the benefits of TQM and TPM in a typical manufacturing organization. The frequent drill breakage during the tie rod tube drilling is considered for the study. With the help of TQM and TPM techniques, it is noticed that the tool breakage due to lack of control in the upsetting stage. The study recommended the usage of combination drill which resulted in elimination of tool breakage. A comparative study is made to know that the drill breakage status before and after TPM implementation. The statistical figure of comparative study is presented in the paper
