India in the World Political and Economic System : From Non-Alignment to RIC

The world political system in the second half of the 20th century had a bipolar structure, which was formed as a result of the formation of two blocs, namely the socialist led by the USSR and the capitalist led by the United States. It became the foundation for the formation of military-political alliances, the cause of many wars and conflicts, a prerequisite for the choice of development strategies, and much more. In this system, India tried to find its own way and became one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement. The Indian leadership took advantage of maneuvering between the two blocs, although due to the similarity of foreign policy views it was more inclined toward the Soviet Union. The end of the bipolar system marked the beginning of a new one, in which the United States remained the “supreme” determinant of the further development of the world community. Against this background, already in the 1990s, the growing powers declared the need to form a multipolar world that would satisfy the interests of many states, not a handful. Over time, this concept was transformed into the concept of "multipolarity", with India being one of the staunchest supporters. Asian countries have become especially persistent in defending their rights and interests in the international arena, and today the two largest Asian states - India and China - together with Russia are challenging American dominance not only in their region, but also in the world as a whole. The economic successes of Delhi and Beijing complemented by the military and political achievements of Moscow may well become the main driving force of the new world political system
