Integrated Public Transportation Planning Using Catchment Area Analysis for Pune Metropolitan Region
The Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) has been established by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in 2012. Its boundaries were extended in 2015. A large number of townships, industrial areas and residential areas have come up and continue to grow in PMR. The preparation of the Development Plan for PMR is in progress, which shall also act as an impetus towards the growth of the region. The change in PMR has resulted in increasing demand for passenger transportation, which is presently met by private vehicles and various Public Transportation modes. Public Transportation facilities are scarce and whatever is available is concentrated in the core area of PMR under municipal jurisdictions. The existing Public Transportation (PT) modes operate in isolation without having any coordination with other modes and operate parallel to each other in many places, operating discordantly instead of reciprocating to each other. This scenario has brought forward the need for Integrated Public Transportation Planning and Integration of Modes. This research aims at addressing the concerns in the existing PT system and introducing an Integrated Public Transportation System for this region. The Weighted Overlay Analysis has been employed to find the requirement for the provision of PT modes
