Integration of Data Mining Techniques with Database Management System

Data mining has become an important area of research because of its ability to get valuable information from the data. With its recent emergence, there is a need to build a useful data mining system to obtain valuable information from the databases. Earlier, the data mining technique was integrated with the traditional database system to be used along with other related applications like On Line Analysis Processing (OLAP) and data warehousing. However, with the huge amount of data stored in the traditional Database Management System (DBMS), and a requirement to support ad hoc mining, there is a necessity to integrate the mining operators with the traditional DBMS. This paper discusses a number of approaches used for this integration, and their applications for classification and association rule mining.
