Intersectionality in work and employment

How can intersectionality support the advancement of theoretical and empirical discussions in the field of work and employment? This chapter discusses the use and usefulness of intersectionality to advance research work that focuses on inequalities in work and employment. The chapter identifies key themes and considerations to support a thematic and methodological agenda that uses intersectionality to interrogate disadvantage and privilege so that we gain a better understanding of how multiple social identities interplay with positionalities, leading to inequalities in work and employment. The chapter shows how intersectionality can support scholars in the field to gain a more insightful theoretical understanding of inequalities and facilitate the epistemological framing and analytical angle to empirically interrogate these inequalities at micro-individual, meso-organizational, and macro-contextual levels.
