Irrigation development and cereal production in Asia

The development pattern of rice, a major crop in Asia, relating it to irrigation, is briefly reviewed, the relationships between higher cereal production, calorie intake per capita and investment in irrigation facilities examined, some of the major tasks ahead in Asian agriculture in the light of changing circumstances outlined and the future role of irrigation in agricultural development highlighted.
