Is evidence-based practice a plank in the bridge between research and practice?

This paper explores the phenomenon of Evidence-Based Practise (EBP), especially regarding itspotential for the Information Systems (IS) discipline.It reviews the implementation of EBP within theestablished contexts of the health and medicaldisciplines, as well as some early stage disciplinessuch as Librarianship and Software Engineering(SE). In doing so, the necessary EBP infrastructureis noted, especially where it may present a resourceor cultural challenge. The early work already donein IS is also reviewed. The authors hope that byflagging some of the early findings in this researchthat it will foster a constructive debate, that willassist in determining the real potential of EBP tobring the academic and practitioner wings of the ISdiscipline closer together, accompanied by anincrease in research relevance.
