It's All in the Strategy : Minority Candidates for Local Offices and Election Rules
The literature tells us election rules can have an effect on the success of minority candidates. However, do campaign finance restrictions, term limits, and the type of district affect the strategies of minority candidates for local office? This paper will attempt to determine if minority candidates have different strategies under different election rules than other candidates. Using an original survey of over 2000 candidates for local offices conducted in nine states holding elections in 2009 and 2010, I study candidate's election strategies in the face of different electoral constraints
