Japanese Airports : Analysis of Directional Slacks-Based Inefficiency

This paper evaluates the production activities of Japanese airports from 1987-2005 by using the directional slacks-based Inefficiency Data Envelopment Analysis model. Three measures of efficiency are estimated: the SBI-directional slacks-based inefficiency measure, the directional distance function, and the directional bias. This procedure not only enables us to rank the Japanese airports according to their efficiency in the period analyzed but also permits us to identify slacks in the level of efficiency.
