Purpose – This commentary aims to review the contributing papers in this special issue. Design/methodology/approach – Papers are reviewed by Joan Acker in relation to her original work “Hierarchies, jobs, bodies: a theory of gendered organizations”. Findings – It is found that the articles make important contributions to the question of equality in organizations. Originality/value – This commentary serves as a reminder that academic work can contribute to a dialogue between academic generations, as is demonstrated throughout this special issue.
