Knowledge transfer and knowledge managementin a global organisation - Some reflections from an ongoing research project

This is a report from an ongoing research projectfocussing the development of a new kind of activityin a large company context. In 1992, a very smallunit started to produce networks and applicationssolutions to customer in the tele- and datacommunicationsector. This sector is at presentundergoing a rapid and sometimes dramaticdevelopment… The number of telecomoperators is increasing. Broader bands enablebetter and faster communication. There is anintegration of fixed and mobile communicationsystems. The underlying infrastructure becomesincreasingly open and allows external operators anddesign organisations to develop serviceapplications… The empirical data for our study comes from a largetelecommunication infrastructure provider. We have had theopportunity to follow the development of a service-application unit,responsible for development and sales of service applications,enabling telecommunication systems to become more "intelligent".Our study s organised in several sub-projects, one of which focuseson knowledge transfer processes.
