Labour standards in developing economies that have improved as a result of globalization since 1980

The concept of globalization is inextricably vast and has many contexts related to it. Globalization can be defined under factors like economics, socio-economic, cultural, technological, etc. In other words, globalization is a term that repercussions numerous interrelated issues with respect to its social ramifications. Globalization can be defined as ‘the result of human innovation and technological progress. It refers to the increasing integration of economies around the world, particularly through the movement of goods, services, and capital across borders’ (IMF 2008).Introduction to globalization have three different motives. The first motive was to improve the hardship conditions of the labour through ‘social justice’ and ‘humanitarian concern’. The second motive was to bring peace and harmony in the world right after the World War I and Bolshevik Revolution. The third and last motive was to eradicate all the negative aspects created by nations that could not acknowledge the benevolent conditions of labour (Lee 1997). International labour standards were introduced to ensure a harmony in the labour conditions of the both developed and developing countries. From developed to developing countries, it is a core requirement to maintain the healthy conditions of the labour and provide with an income or wages that will at least improve their current standard of living. International labour standards evolved after the concept of globalization got rejuvenated, which was based on the implementation of international conventions that contains the force of the international laws on the countries that agreed with such labour standards (Lee 1997). A report from International Labour Organizations (ILO) stated that even without the involvement of the international coercive measures the standard of labour might improve and progress if the countries experience economic development (Singh and Zammit 2000). In today’s world, globalization has made a huge impact on labour and their working conditions that is strictly maintained throughout. This paper will focus on two developing countries – Bangladesh and China and explain the labour standards of the respective countries and the trend of the labour market since 1980s
