Learning, development and employability

This chapter discusses the skill and employability implications arising from the changes to work and employment relationships that have been linked to increased digitisation, automation and other technological developments. This chapter focuses on learning, training, development, vocational education and employability. These are critical drivers of a nation’s wealth with direct and indirect impact on individual’s careers, employability and life chances and on organisational productivity and performance. The chapter addresses the key questions of: (1) The main features of learning, training and employability; (2) The impact of globalisation; and (3) The critical learning, training, education and employability policy responses.
