Library as a place in space

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to pose the question for librarians of what the right mix is today and for the future in meeting the needs and expectations of library patrons. Design/methodology/approach – The paper looks at how use of library space is evolving, including uses that were not part of the original plans for the building. Findings – The paper finds that changes in technology cause the amount of library space devoted to traditional library uses to shrink dramatically in an ever more digitized environment. Originality/value – The paper provides useful information on the evolving use of library space.
