Los Cambios En La Productividad : Medidas Alternativas Aplicadas A Colombia (Changes in Productivity: Alternative Measures Applied to Colombia)

Spanish Abstract: Desde el seminal artículo de Solow (1957), la productividad ha sido un tema recurrente en la literatura económica. La forma elegante como dicho artículo torna aprehensible un concepto de otra manera difuso, ha alentado numerosas investigaciones y ha propiciado esfuerzos conducentes a hacer más precisa su medición. El presente artículo pretenderevisar esas mediciones alternativas y aplicarlas al caso Colombiano, al tiempo que interpreta la relación entre el concepto de productividad tal y como los economistas lo han desarrollado y el concepto que en la práctica empresarial parece corresponderle: el de reducción de costos. La sección segunda se ocupa de este último tema, en tanto que la tercera aborda las medidas alternativas de la productividad, y la cuarta reporta algunos resultados para Colombia. El artículo termina con algunas conclusiones.English Abstract: Since Solow's seminal paper, productivity has been a recurrent topic in economic literature. The way in which the mentioned paper turns comprehensible an otherwise confused concept, has encouraged diverse researches and has favored efforts to make its measurement more precise. This paper pretends to revise such alternative measurements of the concept and apply them to Colombia's case, while interprets the relationship of productivity with the manners in which economists have applied it and what it could be understood in real business practice: costs reduction. This last topic is treated in the second section, while the third section talks about productivity alternative measurements, and the fourth shows some results for Colombia. Finally it concludes
