Low-temperature properties of the Ce(Pd<Subscript>1−x</Subscript>Ni<Subscript>x</Subscript>) system
The influence of substituting Pd by Ni is described in Ce(Pd<Subscript>1-x </Subscript>Ni<Subscript> x </Subscript>)<Subscript>3</Subscript> alloys with x taken up to about 0.25. Thermal and magnetization measurements point out a transition from a non-magnetic state (CePd<Subscript>3</Subscript>) to a ferromagnetic state for x > 0.05, with a Curie temperature T <Superscript> c </Superscript> ≈ 2 K. The Ce-L <Subscript>2,3</Subscript> absorption edges and magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) study reveals the coexistence of strong 4f hybridization and ferromagnetic order. The Ce-L <Subscript>2,3</Subscript> XMCD signal measured in CePd<Subscript>3</Subscript> demonstrates that in the Ce-based dense Kondo materials only the 4f <Superscript>1</Superscript> channel gives a magnetic response.
